New book launch! Extraordinary Deviations by Raven Kaldera → circlet.com

Extraordinary Deviations: Transgender Erotica
by Raven Kaldera
$5.99, 45,000 words
ISBN: 978-1-61390-087-1

About the Book:

The common conception of gender is turned on its head in these eight sensual stories by longtime Circlet author Raven Kaldera. From the ancient Roman Empire to the virtual-reality-filled future to fantasy worlds filled with fae creatures, these stories follow people (and other beings) who are transgender, intersex, androgynous, or otherwise beyond the gender binary in their exciting and often kinky erotic adventures.

In these stories, a woman becomes the lover of a deity who comes to her through the bodies of people who are more than simply men or women; a would-be superhero with a less-than-useful mutation seduces an androgynous shapeshifter with ambiguous loyalties; a woman inherits some strange artifacts from a witchy great-aunt and, with them, a startling and transformational family legacy; and more. Combining love, worship, power, and gratification, these encounters are surprising and challenging–and, of course, always sexy.

About the Author

Raven Kaldera is the author of 34 books and innumerable short stories. He lives on a small homestead in Massachusetts with his polymorphously perverse polyamorous family, and a few goats, sheep, and chickens. ‘Tis an ill wind that blows no minds.

No Safewords: A Marketplace Fan Anthology now on sale! → circlet.com

No Safewords: A Marketplace Fan Anthology
edited by Laura Antoniou
$7.99, 62,300 words
ISBN: 978-1-61390-061-1

About the Book:

Ten stories of BDSM, submission, and service set in the secret world of Laura Antoniou’s Marketplace. The Marketplace has fans all over the world, and Antoniou invited them to come play in her fictional sandbox/dungeon. Numbered among those fans happen to be some of the top erotica and alternative sexuality writers in the world, including D.L. King, Sassafras Lowrey, and Elizabeth Schechter.

The full slate of writers contributing to NO SAFEWORDS runs the gamut of award-winning authors to bright-eyed new voices, as creator Laura Antoniou explains in her introduction: “As the saying goes, ‘blessed are those who embellish the tale.’ So here is the Marketplace, as seen through other eyes. There are some stories that show the world exactly as I created it, and some that push my boundaries a tad. There is romance and strife, glee and despair. There is hot sex, of course, but there’s also humor and melodrama. Just the way I like it.

There were some surprises for me! I was delighted to find several female dominant/male submissive stories, especially since my examples of those relationships tend to be supporting, rather than main characters. I was also pleased by the writers who weren’t afraid to go a little dark; a collection of stories all about slaves misbehaving in mildly inconvenient ways and getting fantastically, erotically punished would have been tiresome.

So whether you want a rollicking Victorian flavored tale of adventure and romance or a modern, sexy welcome to a new home for a familiar character, you will find flavors here to tempt or satisfy your tastes. Return for more time travel to a world where the language we so casually use to describe our tastes doesn’t even exist, but where longing for a ritualized order and discipline and a sense of belonging transcends words, and gets expressed in the rich metaphor—and reality—of a garden.

Then swerve away from romance to feel the terror of a slave newly sold to an owner who represents their worst nightmare, whether because of demographics or the enormous challenge of a language barrier.

Here, you can get into the reflection of a trainer’s long career or the grief and anguish of a new owner confronted with an inherited house full of property she didn’t choose. Or, watch how even the jaded, experienced ways of the Marketplace aware people become awkward in that most awkward of adult challenges—a marriage proposal.

Get a glimpse into the rarefied and formal household of an owner/spotter, and then take a detour to the desolate history of a young genderqueer punk fresh from the streets, confronted with the most iconic of Marketplace characters.

All of this—a synthesis of my imagination and theirs, fed by culture, fantasy, fairy tales and fears. All fiction is, in a way, fan fiction. I am sorry it took so long for me to see this and to open myself to the interesting sensations—you might call it edge-play—in giving people access to my favorite victims. But better late than never!”

What Happens at the Tavern Stays at the Tavern → circlet.com

What Happens at the Tavern Stays at the Tavern: Epic Fantasy Quest Erotica
edited by J. Levine
$5.99, 46,000 words
ISBN 978-1-61390-066-6

About the Book:

Since Tolkien’s time, many authors have taken readers along on elaborate treks through fantastic worlds. In What Happens at the Tavern Stays at the Tavern, we asked writers to tackle the pauses and interstices in a fantasy quest. What kinds of steamy adventures happen behind the scenes, when our heroes and heroines are trekking along their journey?

The word “fantasy” evokes many different responses in people, but the epic fantasy quest is the heart of the genre. Heroes and heroines set off to defeat evil. Haven’t you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes, during the downtime the authors gloss over? “What Happens at the Tavern Stays at the Tavern” gives us the peek behind the curtains we’ve all been waiting for (some of us since the “teaser” excerpt in the Harvard Lampoon’s “Bored of the Rings”…).

In “Encounter at the Lonely Dragon,” Elinor Gray stays true to the title of the anthology, telling the tale of a would-be quester who has an unexpected run-in with a former lover in the secluded loft of a tavern’s stable. “Orin’s Strand” by Vivien Jackson weaves a story of a seer in love who can’t resist the temptation to use her powers―and her body―to bind her lover to her. Kierstin Cherry’s “Paget and the Princess” follows Paget, a Knight of the Guard, sworn to protect her princess―and her princess’s chastity―who nonetheless can’t resist the princess’s warm bosom and soft lips.

In “The Place Where Heroes Are Made” by Sarah Ellis, we find ourselves in another tavern, this one run by a family that beds those heroes marked by the gods as doomed so that they don’t go childless into unknown lands. “Crystalline Sorcery” by Julie Cox explores the sexual identity of Heid, a female warrior who longs to be able to penetrate as a man, and her elven companion, a priestess who insists that the divide between male and female is not so inflexible as Heid thinks. Finally, “Flings and Arrows” by Andrea Trask lets us in on the journey of Alleria, a woman who is the key to fulfilling a prophecy―but when a mysterious man kidnaps her and reaches between her legs to confirm that she’s a virgin, all may be lost.

In her latest anthology, editor Jennifer Levine invites you to escape into a world of fantasy, one where you get magic, warriors, fantasy worlds, and sex.

Like a Breath of Flame: Erotic Tales of Dragons
edited by Cosmin Alexander and Cecilia Tan
$6.99 ebook, 46,200 words

Circlet Press digital titles are also available at the Amazon Kindle Store, B&N.com, Smashwords, Kobo, Apple’s iBookstore, and many independent booksellers via Google ebooks, as well as specialty ebookstores like All Romance eBooks, and Weightless Ebooks, to name just a few! <strong>About the Book:</strong>

Dragons are present across almost all human culture: from the classic fire-breathing and princess-coveting dragons of Western Europe to the wise and noble dragons of East Asia to the great monstrous lizards of Greek mythology to the feathered serpents of South America. But what of the sexual side of the dragon? What of sensuality at the border between earth and sky, what of the myths of kings and emperors being literally descended from dragons, what of dragons who take on human shape to learn mankind’s ways? Humans and dragons have existed side by side since nearly the beginning of time—surely their desires must have crossed at some point.

Like a Breath of Flame: Erotic Tales of Dragons contains nine short stories that explore the theme of scaled sensuality from a variety of different perspectives. In this anthology are stories of lonely mountain dragons with exotic tastes, dragons with the power to slip into their lover’s dreams, shapechanger dragons, unusual interpretations of the term “dragon rider,” dragon-as-devil and dragon-as-god… and, yes, no less than two versions of the virgin-sacrificed-to-dragon story, each with their own unique twist on the tale. These stories of serpentine sexuality are certain to delight the senses.

This anthology includes stories by KJ Kabza, Julian Oliver-Fenn, Dean Scarborough, Kannang Feng, Steven Schwartz, Dominic Santi, David Hubbard, Kimber Camacho, and Nobilis Reed.

About the Book:

“For starters, honey, I don’t believe in Hell–that’s just some old man’s way of telling me reasons why I can’t be me. Like “biology is destiny” means I have to be a boy.”
– “Lady Marmalade’s Special Place in Hell” by David Sklar

There have always been stories of those willing to blur or transcend the traditional gender roles. Some do it out of necessity, others are merely embracing their true selves. Sometimes it’s for fun, other times survival. Every culture has their gender benders, their cross-dressers, their rule breakers. From Bugs Bunny to Mulan, Alanna of Trebond to Klinger, our folk heroes and cultural icons push boundaries and challenge expectations.

In Scheherazade’s Façade, twelve of today’s most intriguing authors spin tales of magic, mystery, self-discovery and adventure, each with a twist. In these pages you’ll find shape-shifting dragons, triumphant drag queens, tragic selkies, lost princes and would-be warriors. You’ll find star-crossed lovers and mysterious travelers, cross-dressers and gender bending heroes of all sorts.

This launch title for Circlet’s new Gressive Press imprint features all-new fantasy and urban fantasy from Tanith Lee, Sarah Rees Brennan, Tiffany Trent, Aliette de Bodard, Alma Alexander, David Sklar, Melissa Mead, C.S. MacCath, Paolo Chikiamco, Sunny Moraine, Lyn C.A. Gardner, and Shanna Germain.

Call for Submissions: The Flesh Made Word -- Erotic Tales About Writing → circlet.com

Call for Submissions: The Flesh Made Word: Erotic Tales About Writing
Edited by Bernie Mojzes

Deadline: March 1, 2013

In the age of communication – where words are cheap, easy, and disposable – it’s easy to forget the sheer physicality of the written word. The inscription, through will and intention, through the press and flow of pen and ink expressing what’s hidden within ourselves upon a surface that is transformed through the process: what is more intimate than that?

The Flesh Made Word is an erotic anthology about the act of writing, and of being written upon. Old typewriters, the tattooist’s pen, the press of fountain-pen nib to flesh. The sensuality of the words themselves, both the sound and the shape of them. The clack of typewriter keys and the shuffle-clank of the printing press. The intersection of the expression of the idea and the physicality of the body. The transformation or transcendence of the flesh through written language.

I am looking for strong, edgy stories that don’t exist merely as an excuse for a great sex scene. Send me stories that take me to surprising places, and stories that don’t flinch.

While this anthology is expected to be primarily comprised of Science Fiction & Fantasy, it is open to (almost) all genres, including Mystery, Adventure, Western, Mainstream and the ever-popular-though-always-misunderstood Slipstream.

More details:

Length: Up to 8000 words.

Response Time: 1 month. Please query if you do not receive an acknowledgement within 3 days.

How to submit:
Send your stories in .doc or .rtf format to fmw-subs@kappamaki.com. Please don’t send in .docx format, and please use a reasonable font and follow something that looks reasonably like Standard Manuscript Format.

About the editor: Bernie Mojzes is a writer of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror, with occasional deviations into mainstream fiction. His stories appeared in as divergent markets as Daily Science Fiction and Circlet Press’s Whispers in Darkness. He also co-edits the Journal of Unlikely Entomology. That’s probably a good place to look to get a feel for his editorial aesthetic.

Only email submissions are accepted. Submissions sent to other addresses/other editors at Circlet Press will not be considered. Standard manuscript formatting rules apply even though sending as an attachment (MS Word .doc or .rtf preferred). Please note that this means your name, address, and email contact must appear on the manuscript itself and not simply in your email message. (If you’re not sure what a standard short story submission format should look like, Google is your friend.)

No simultaneous submissions (that is, don’t also send your story elsewhere at the same time, and don’t send it to multiple Circlet editors, either), and no multiple submissions – wait to hear back on the first story before sending a second.

All stories must include explicit sexuality and erotic focus. Romantic content is welcome, but in a short story remember to keep the details on the action and its effects on the main character’s internal point of view. We favor a strong, singular narrative voice (no ‘head hopping’ or swapping between different character’s points of view within a scene). For more details on our editorial preferences, see the general submission guidelines on circlet.com. We highly recommend reading the guidelines, especially the “do not send” list, to increase your chances of sending us something we’ll love. Try to avoid cliches. Fresh and direct language is preferred to overly euphemistic. Sex-positive, please, no rape/nonconsensuality/necrophilia or other purposefully gross topics. We do not publish horror.

Originals only, no reprints. We purchase first rights for inclusion in the ebook anthology for $0.01/word up to $25, with the additional rights to a print edition later for an additional payment of the same amount if a print edition happens. Authors retain the rights to the individual stories; Circlet exercises rights to the anthology as a whole.

He is summoned home, though, to join a group of candidates being convened so that the crown princess may choose a consort and a slave.

Arshan is not destined for slavery, not even at the feet of the future queen, and finds himself trapped in a world of castle intrigue and sexual competition for dominance. He is fresh meat, and everyone wants a piece of him. Can he find a way to survive without surrendering, to submit without being collared for life?

About the Book:

The winner of Circlet Press’s 2012 “Fantastic Erotica” award, “Ota Discovers Fire” is a cliché-busting fantasy tale of magic, kinky sex, and witty dialogue.

The story follows Ota, a novice fire magician with no wilderness survival skills, who is traveling through the forest to reach his relatives in Ivy City. His journey is enlivened when he comes across a girl who claims to be able to turn herself into a wolf, and when she agrees to guide and protect him… for a price. As with all of Vinnie Tesla’s Circlet publications, “Ota Discovers Fire” is at once funny and sexy, a masterful display of worldbuilding, and defies standard fantasy tropes.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Circlet Press, readers were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite story from among all the stories published by Circlet from 2008 to the present. “Ota Discovers Fire”–originally published in Circlet Press’s travel-themed anthology, Like a Long Road Home–beat out hundreds of other stories to claim the title of top story. (The top 19 stories have been compiled in a print anthology, Fantastic Erotica, also recently released by Circlet Press.) “Ota Discovers Fire” is available here as a stand-alone ebook, with bonus glossary.

“… A traveler’s tale that blends anthropological satire with a compelling setting and delightfully hot human-werewolf sex scenes that flow seamlessly from the plot.” – Publishers Weekly (starred review of Fantastic Erotica)

About the Author:

Vinnie Tesla is the author of The Erotofluidic Age, a tongue-in-cheek pornographic steampunk ebook, published by Circlet Press. He has a bunch of short stories and a badly neglected blog at vinnietesla.com. His current project is a crime novel set in the world of “Ota Discovers Fire.” He lives in Somerville, Massachusetts with his spousalbeast and has never owned a car, a house, or a tie-dyed article of clothing.

Call for Submissions: Like Fortune’s Fool: Erotic Tales of Serendipity and Luck → circlet.com

Call for Submissions: Like Fortune’s Fool: Erotic Tales of Serendipity and Luck
edited by Michael M. Jones

Deadline: November 15, 2012

One of the most enduring factors in human existence, yet one of the most mysterious and least domesticated, is the concept of luck. Call it fate, fortune, chance, serendipity, karma, or superstition. We have a thousand rituals to ward off bad luck and bring on good luck, not to mention that “getting lucky” is an idiom for having sex. How often do we unthinkingly say “It must be my lucky day?” or “As Fate would have it…” or even “Better luck next time?” For good or bad, this intangible force surrounds and influences us, often in ways we can’t explain. Whether we’re talking about lucky pennies or Lady Luck, black cats or Friday the 13th, we know something out there is trying to keep things…interesting. In this anthology explore the sexy side of fortune and fate. Was it happenstance that brought two lovers together, or a carefully manipulated skein of probability? Did that winning lottery ticket come by accident, or design? Did a miscast spell or whimsical genie alter the course of some poor sap’s life? Is our hero a coin flip away from the hottest encounter of his life?

MORE DETAILS:

All stories must have three central components:
1) The element of chance, fate, fortune, karma, serendipity, luck, or what-have-you. It can be good, it can be bad, it can be indifferent, but the element must be present and visible.
2) A science fiction or fantasy element that is essential to the story. Lady Luck could be real, or a machine designed to affect probability. Spells could be cast, or magical creatures involved. I want stories where a coin flip has actual consequences, where there’s a mystical rationale at play, where the real becomes unreal, and the natural becomes supernatural.
3) Hot, explicit, intelligent, mind-blowing sex. If the characters can’t thank their lucky stars afterwards, something’s gone horribly wrong.

This is a wide-open concept with a great deal of abstraction at play, and that means writers will have to really have to stretch their imaginations. We’re looking for stories which embody serendipity–that is, they truly are “pleasant surprises.”

Length: Our preferred length is approximately 3500 to 7500 words, but we will consider the range from 2000 to 10,000 words.

Call for Submissions: Wired Hard 5: Yet More Erotica For a Gay Universe → circlet.com

Call for Submissions: Wired Hard 5: Yet More Erotica For a Gay Universe
edited by Joy Crelin

Deadline: December 1, 2012

Circlet Press is seeking stories for the fifth installment in the Wired Hard series of anthologies exploring gay male sexuality through the lens of erotic science fiction and fantasy. Whether set in a fantastical past or a dystopian future, a thriving metropolis or a fallen kingdom, a starship or a mythological realm, the world we know or a world we can barely begin to imagine, stories should focus on the desire and passion between two (or maybe more!) male-identified characters.

The first volume of Wired Hard was published in 1994, the year that organizers in Boston canceled its 92-year-old St. Patrick’s Day Parade rather than allow a court-ordered GLBT group to march, the year that the UK reduced the age of consent for gay men to age 18, South Africa finally included homosexuality in its national non-discrimination laws, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was new, and the American Medical Association published a statement condemning any claimed “cures” for homosexuality. The best speculative fiction tells us something about our present even while looking into our future, our past, or alternate realities. Now it’s 2012, and although times have changed, homophobia still exists. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell has been repealed, but laws in Uganda have been introduced making homosexuality punishable by death. Many states and countries have passed laws legalizing same-sex marriage while others have banned it. Your story doesn’t have to be overtly political, in fact we’d prefer it not be heavy-handed, but writing about male-male sex and desire is inherently an act of political freedom. Keep the focus on passion and eroticism and let us see your best.

MORE DETAILS ON SUBMITTING:

Length: Our preferred length is approximately 3500 to 7500 words, but we will consider the range from 2000 to 10,000 words.

Call for Submissions: Elves on the Edge: Elfin Erotica → circlet.com

Call for Submissions: Elves on the Edge: Elfin Erotica
edited by Hero Freyr

Deadline: November 1, 2012

Depending on the telling, elves are magical, powerful, immortal, connected to nature, hyper-sensate, androgynous, black, pale, evil, spiritual, of a higher order … Almost always, they have exceptional grace or beauty, from the silver-haired dark elves of Menzoberranzan to the ethereal elves of Rivendell. But beauty isn’t everything sexy. We are now accepting submissions for a Circlet Press anthology of erotic elfin stories with an edge, featuring tested, tempered or deepened elves, all the more sexy for the hard choices they make. Do they trade immortality or break spiritual rules for love? Perhaps they face tension with their elfin world. Do they question a ban on human-elf sex? Do they wander beyond the Safety Zone in search of an exiled lover? Perhaps they face initiation or undergo a quest in order to awaken or consummate their passion. Do they deepen their sexual liaison with troll or banshee or vampire by overcoming cultural differences or physical incompatibilities? Basically if it’s sexy, treats elves with some depth and has lots of tension, we will look at it.

MORE DETAILS ON SUBMITTING:

Length: Our preferred length is approximately 3500 to 7500 words, but we will consider the range from 2000 to 10,000 words.

How to submit: Send plain text, .rtf, or .doc to Hero Freyr at herofreyr@gmail.com

About the editor: After Hero Freyr’s SM-flavored short story “When to Say Die” appeared in Circlet Press’ Sexcrime anthology, Freyr went on to develop, write for, and edit the magazines at ALT.com, OutPersonals.com, and AdultFriendfinder.com, from which “Dream Machine”  (under the AFF pseudonym Lauraleigh Farrell) appeared in Suzie Bright’s Best American Erotica (2007). Freyr was reenergized at the Circlet retreat this past spring and is excited to be working with Circlet again.

Like a Midsummer Night now on sale! → circlet.com

Like A Midsummer Night: Erotic Shakespeare
edited by Cecilia Tan and Nikola Klaus
Price: $5.99
Word Count: 25,000
ISBN 978-1-61390-062-8

About the Book:

Shakespeare and reimaginings have a long history together. The Bard himself drew inspiration for his plays from various stories, poems, myths, and historical accounts, and we in our turn have drawn inspiration from these plays for everything from books to movies to video games to pop songs. Yet after centuries of people having their way with the works of Shakespeare, there is still so much territory to explore.

These six seductive tales delve into the much-neglected sexy side of Shakespeare, following these timeless characters into the bedroom–and beyond! Spanning times and places from ancient Rome to other planets in the distant future, these stories based on Romeo and Juliet, Othello, Cymbeline, Twelfth Night, and, of course, A Midsummer Night’s Dream mix sex, magic, transformations, disguises, gender-bending, love potions, and tangled relationships into a brew as heady as the juice of any magic flower.

Includes stories by Lori Selke, César Sanchez Zapata, Annabeth Leong, Clarice Clique, Emily Moreton, and Nik Flandré.

Black Feathers ebook now on sale! → circlet.com

Black Feathers: Erotic Dreams
by Cecilia Tan
$7.99 ebook
Word count: 94,475
ISBN 978-1-61390-027-7

About the Book:

BLACK FEATHERS: Erotic Dreams was originally published back in the 1990s by HarperCollins, showcasing 23 erotic stories by Cecilia Tan, founder of Circlet Press. The taboos broken by the book are not those of sexuality per se, though the book contains healthy doses of BDSM and alien-human relations. The boundaries most challenged by the book are those of categories themselves. The book mixes real world contemporary fiction stories with fantasy and science fiction, and includes gay, lesbian, trans, bisexual, and heterosexual erotica all in one collection. While that made it a challenge for bookstores to figure out what shelf to put it on (erotica? lesbian? gay? science fiction? literary fiction?), it prompted Paramour Magazine to issue the praise: “There’s something for everyone here.”

This new ebook edition includes a new forward by the author, in which she says of the book’s “sex-positive” label, “In these stories there is conflict, pain, friction and trouble. But the sex is consensual, and the stories are intended to arouse. They arouse through pleasure and desire and exploration, and not through guilt.” Unless you’re reading them at work, perhaps.

“Black Feathers is not for the faint of heart or the politically correct. Cecilia Tan’s collection of erotic fantasy explores the twists and turns of pain and pleasure, dominance and submission. But perhaps most fun for grown-up science fiction fans are Tan’s forays into the sex of the future.”
–The New York Blade

“Cecilia Tan transcends time, space, gravity, and cultural norms in her line of work: erotic science fiction.” –San Francisco Weekly

“Fur, sandpaper, a hairbrush, a braided thong-—these are a few of Tan’s favorite things. BLACK FEATHERS is… steamy, lubricious, power-laden, and hypnotic for a stroke or trance when the itch calls.” –The Village Voice

“When the erotic imagination is jump-started and tears through your subconscious like a funny car on acid, there’s no telling where a fantasy can lead. In the case of Cecilia Tan… your fantasies may take you way out.” –Girlfriends Magazine

“Inventive and playful, Tan exhibits great imagination.”–Penthouse.com

“[Her] best work fuses [fiction] with sexual practices beyond the norm. Amy Tan it ain’t.”
–Harper’s Bazaar Singapore

“Tan’s marvelous descriptive abilities … reach out of the page to the reader with a tremendous urgency. There’s something for everyone here.” — Paramour Magazine

“Tan herself is writing about many other things when she writes explicitly about sex: the influence or people’s placement in social class and gender, race, and power groups in influencing sexual attraction, sexual practice, and sexuality.”
–New York Review of Science Fiction

About the Author:

Cecilia Tan is the author of Daron’s Guitar Chronicles, White Flames, The Prince’s Boy, Mind Games, Edge Plays, Telepaths Don’t Need Safewords, the Magic University series, and many other books. Her short stories have appeared in Ms. Magazine, Nerve, Best American Erotica, Asimov’s Science Fiction, and tons of other places. She was inducted into the Saints & Sinners Hall of Fame for GLBT writers in 2010. She lives in the Boston area with her lifelong partner corwin and three cats.

One Saved to the Sea now on sale! → circlet.com

In the Orkney Islands, mothers tell their children of the selkies, seals who can shed their skins and dance on land. They also tell that whoever holds a selkie girl’s skin can trap her for a wife. From the lighthouse where she was raised, Mairead has watched the selkie girls secretly since she was small. She longs to leave the home that has never really been hers and join them. She could never have guessed that a limping selkie girl has been watching her too, nor what wildness the shapeshifter would draw her into. Their paths collide when most of the men including Mairead’s brothers have been called to war, the village idiot decides to catch himself a wife, and Mairead is the only one who can stop him.

Drawing on myth and history, Catt Kingsgrave writes a tale of the clash of the modern age with magic, of loss and searching, a tale that will sweep you away to a past that never was, and into a sapphic love story just this side of impossible.

About the Author:

Catt Kingsgrave has been writing fiction and verse since the early eighties, and despite everything, has not yet seen fit to desist. With works ranging from Urban and Mythic Fantasy through Horror, Erotica, and a decided taste for the Gothic and macabre, she takes delight in making all her works as difficult to classify as humanly possible.  She lives with her partner, five cats, and two snakes in an upstate New York home that was built a century or so before the state in which she was born was made a part of the Union. When not writing, she has been known to indulge in random bouts of theater, songwriting, dance, painting, home repair, volunteer rape crisis counseling, and folk music. Her interests are zombie outbreak preparedness, criminal profiling, gardening, and full-contact applied mythology. She does not make jam.

The Academy (Book 4 of the Marketplace Series) now on sale! → circlet.com

The Academy: Tales of the Marketplace (The Marketplace Series, book 4)
by Laura Antoniou
ISBN: 978-1-61390-042-0 paperback; 978-1-61390-043-7 ebook
Word Count: 190,000
Page Count: 414
List Price: $9.99 ebook, $19.95 paperback

About the Book:

The Academy: Tales of the Marketplace continues the brilliant saga of resolute slaves and exacting owners begun in previous volumes (The Marketplace. The Slave, and The Trainer). A dynamic culture of honor and duty embracing absolute servitude is the basis for the clandestine society known as The Marketplace. Sensuality, intelligence, and passion meld into exquisite eroticism and scenes of blazing sexuality.

In “The Academy” we follow Chris Parker and his trainee, Michael LaGuardia, to Japan, where a conclave of trainers is taking place. While the trainers swap cautionary tales and debate protocol, though, moves are being made that may change the Marketplace, and Chris’s place in it, forever. This complete, full-length novel is a rich tapestry of sexuality and emotion, augmented by the inclusion of short stories by guest authors Karen Taylor, Cecilia Tan, Michael Hernandez, david stein, and Christian Muncy.

The ebook edition includes a brand new bonus story, “Inside Straight”.

About the Author:
Laura Antoniou has become well known in the erotically alternative community as the creator of the Marketplace series (The Marketplace, The Slave, The Trainer, The Academy, and The Reunion), the first three volumes of which were originally published under the name Sara Adamson. One Marketplace character also appears in her first book, The Catalyst, but she leaves the reader to figure that out. The only independently written Marketplace short story, “Brian on the Farm,” appears in Lawrence Schimel and Carol Queen’s ground-breaking anthology, Switch Hitters: Lesbians Write Gay Male Erotica, and Gay Men Write Lesbian Erotica (Cleis), which has been published in English and in German. “That’s Harsh,” a new Marketplace story that appears as a bonus story in The Slave (Book Two of the Marketplace) won the 2011 John Preston Short Fiction award, presented by the National Leather Association.

Beyond the Softness of His Fur #2 now on sale! → circlet.com

Beyond the Softness of His Fur Part Two: Social Corruption
by TammyJo Eckhart
ISBN: 978-1-61390-060-4
Word Count: 43,000
Page Count: 119
List Price: $3.99

About the Book:

Driven and dominant advertising executive Emily Potter and her exceptional pet white fox morph Wynn have been through a lot together. After having faced Wynn’s assult by Emily’s own half-brother, she is especially horrified by the idea of being forced to share her pet company-wide at an executive retreat, but once again the bosses have spoken and cannot be denied.

Beyond The Softness of His Fur Part Two: Social Corruption is the second installment in TammyJo Eckhart’s provocative and edgy science-fiction trilogy. A tale of genetics, sex, and love between owners and pets, Part Two is concerned with the further exploration of Emily and Wynn’s world– which isn’t quite the sexually liberated utopia it might initially appear to be. With a corporate-run government, security cameras in every sphere of life, and the cultural expectation that Wynn will be shared among her co-workers and superiors at a business retreat, it would seem that Emily and Wynn’s lives together are not to be lived exclusively for themselves. It is only when they are introduced to the radical thinkers of Monroe Village– a commune where humans and morphs can enjoy equal freedoms– that Emily can fathom a way to keep Wynn from harm at another’s hand, even if it means giving up her beloved pet forever.

About the Author:
TammyJo Eckhart, PhD, is the author of seven previous books of BDSM fiction, and has been part of the BDSM community since 1990. 2010 saw the publication of her first non-fiction book from Greenery Press (At Her Feet: Powering your Femdom Relationship). She has been a leader in several BDSM organizations ranging from the AppleMunch to two difference university groups (Con- versio Virium and Headspace) as well as a private support group for tops. As of the spring of 2010, her “kinky family” is comprised of Tom, her husband since 1992, and Fox, her slave since 1999. She loves visiting conventions as well as organizations to read, sell books, or offer her experience and insights on various topics in the form of lectures or workshops. Simulacrum
by Rian Darcy

Word Count: 88,000
Page Count: 328
List Price: $6.99

About the Book:
In the virtual world of Simulnet, no one knows who you really are, making it the perfect playground for the imagination… and for a serial killer.

Shaun’s world turns upside down when a police detective asks for his help finding a murderer somewhere in the cyberspace sex clubs, ramen shops, and massage parlors of Simulnet. His partner on the case will be a prickly and enigmatic programmer known only as Lore. But as they search for the killer, Shaun finds himself wanting to know more and more about his partner. Ultimately the questions Shaun will need to answer most are the ones he asks himself, deep in his heart.

Combining romance, mystery, and cyberpunk, Rian Darcy creates a world for the reader every bit as engrossing and heart-stopping as Simulnet itself. Simulacrum is the latest book in the Clasp Editions imprint of sf/f erotic romances from Circlet Press.

About the Author:
Rian Darcy is the real life alter-ego of fan fiction author Nishizono Shinji. She likes coffee, Sherlock Holmes, and things that make her laugh until she cries. Rian’s work has appeared in Spellbinding: Tales from the Magic University, published by Ravenous Romance, and she is editing an anthology of gay fairy tales for Circlet Press entitled Charming.

Like Hearts Enchanted: Erotic Tales of Love and Magic
edited by Kathleen Tudor and Cecilia Tan
ISBN: 978-1-61390-055-0
Word Count: 28,000
Page Count: 97
List Price: $5.99

About the Book:
Love is a universal ideal transcending time and place and occasionally even dimensions. Anyone who has ever been in love knows that there is something magical about it, but what happens when real magic gets involved in matters of the heart? From love spells, to the ability to open the eyes and the mind, to a special little something that can make you downright irresistible, anything is possible when magic and love mingle.

Prepare to be enchanted and aroused as these five original short stories help you answer the important questions, like “What if love is right in front of you, and all you need to do is let it in?”, “What happens when you mix steampunk, love potions, and a sexy strip tease?”, and of course, “What’s the best course of action if you accidentally summon a demon of lust into your living room?”

Sweet love will take you by surprise in “Violets” by Annabeth Leong. In “Summer’s Breath” by Deb Atwood, love, magic, and need intertwine and show you a hidden world. Heart’s desire is not always what it seems in “Knight of Her Dreams” by Kathleen Tudor. “By the Book” by Elizabeth Thorne takes us on a laugh-out-loud journey through lust, and delivers us to Ann Foster’s “The Captain,” a steampunk romance with a twist.

True love, red-hot sex, enlightenment, salvation, or anything in between; when matters of the heart and matters of magic collide, watch out! Love is in the air, and these five tales of love, sex, and enchantment will capture your senses and whisk you away to a world (or worlds) where anything is possible.

About the Book:
The concept of time travel is an understandably attractive notion to the entire human race. If we could master it, we might find it possible to undo our past mistakes and hold on to the one who got away; we could freeze or lengthen that most perfect moment of climax with just the right lover; or perhaps we could sneak a peek into the future to see how long our new love and passion will really last.

Like The Hand of Time explores time travel intimately through seven all-new diverse and unique lenses. In the past, present, or future, lovers of all kinds– straight, gay, or otherwise– traverse time and come together to meet a long admired historical figure, help themselves get the girl, heal past wounds, and occasionally even just to pass the time in the sexiest way possible. About the Book:
The regal Viscountess and her partner Severin are not your typical detectives, nor your typical mistress/slave pair from the BDSM subculture. They inhabit the magical and kinky world hidden by the powerful spell known as the Blindfold, and they travel from the Real World into magical Dominions that reflect every kink fantasy humans can dream of. When the powerful leader of the Algophilia Society is murdered, their path to track down the killer brings them through a Victorian London that never was, where “fox” hunts involve no animals, and a feudal Japan where a mysterious Jade carver creates terrifying magical dildos. (Think: if Elric’s Stormbringer were a dildo instead of a sword.) Their loving bond as owner and slave is tested–and reinforced–as they whip, suck, and Scene their way to unraveling the mystery and confronting the culprit.

Packed with sf/fantasy film, book, and gaming references, The Viscountess Investigates is both a romp through BDSM subcultures and a geeky fantastical delight.

Standard manuscript formatting rules apply even though sending as an attachment (MS Word .doc or .rtf preferred). Please note that this means your name, address, and email contact must appear on the manuscript itself and not simply in your email message. (If you’re not sure what standard short story submission format should look like, Google is your friend.)

No simultaneous submissions (that is, don’t also send your story elsewhere at the same time, and don’t send it to multiple Circlet editors, either), and no multiple submissions to the same book. One story per author per anthology, thanks.

All stories must include explicit sexuality and erotic focus. Romantic content is welcome, but in a short story remember to keep the details on the action and its effects on the main character’s internal point of view. We favor a strong, singular narrative voice (no ‘head hopping’).

We purchase first rights for inclusion in the ebook anthology for $25, with the additional rights to a print edition later which would also be paid $25 if a print edition happens. Authors retain the rights to the individual stories; Circlet exercises rights to the anthology as a whole.

The Drag Queen of Elfland and Other Stories by Lawrence Schimel → circlet.com

The Drag Queen of Elfland and Other Stories
by Lawrence Schimel
ISBN: 978-1-61390-051-2
Word Count: 47,500
List Price: $5.99

This Circlet title from 1997, part of the Ultra Violet Library imprint for queer fantasy and science fiction, is now available in digital format for the first time. The Drag Queen of Elfland is a collection of fantastical stories imbued with a refreshingly queer sensibility. These seventeen stories feature a lesbian werewolf taking back the night, a gay vampire discovering the perils of going to the gym (too many mirrors, for starters), a young lord’s son undertaking a quest to obtain a magical sword and win the heart of the boy he loves, and much more. Sometimes funny, sometimes moving, sometimes sexy, and always imaginative, these stories show readers the secret worlds that lurk beneath the surface of our own.

Lawrence Schimel has published over 100 books as author or anthologist, including The Future is Queer (Arsenal Pulp), Things Invisible to See: Lesbian and Gay Tales of Magic Realism (Circlet), Two Boys in Love (Seventh Window), and Fairy Tales for Writers (A Midsummer Night’s Press). He has twice won the Lambda Literary Award, for First Person Queer (Arsenal Pulp) and PoMoSexuals: Challenging Assumptions about Gender and Sexuality (Cleis), and has also won the Spectrum, the Independent Publisher Book Award, the Rhysling, and other awards. He lives in Madrid, Spain, where he works as a Spanish->English translator.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Call for Submissions: For Science!: Erotic Stories of Mad Science and Mad Scientists → circlet.com

Call for Submissions: For Science!: Erotic Stories of Mad Science and Mad Scientists
edited by Vinnie Tesla (author of The Erotofluidic Age)

Deadline: July 2, 2012

Payment: $25

How to submit: Send plain text, .rtf, or .doc to forscience@vinnietesla.com

I am now accepting submissions for a Circlet Press anthology of erotic stories about mad science and mad scientists.

The mad scientist is a trope that’s thick with cliches, of course. Your mission is to puncture, shatter, subvert, invert, or pervert as many of these as you can get your hands on.

This is an erotic anthology, and all stories must be sexually explicit. However, I want a range of tones in the stories I pick–tragic, poetic, comic, etc… I’m particularly prejudiced in favor of humor, but humor that compliments a hot and involving story. Pieces that are simply funny, I will reject, though sadly.

Most of all, I want you to surprise me. Here are a few thoughts to get you started exploring.

* Traditional mad science stories have involved a solitary practitioner, perhaps with an assistant. But that’s a very nineteenth-century model. What would corporate mad science look like? Academic mad science?
* What are some under-explored specializations? Mad ergonomics? Mad linguistics? Mad economics? (assuming you can think of something madder than a credit-default swap)
* Maybe all our science is mad. What would a sane scientist look like, then? Certainly she’d be called mad often enough…
* Many mad scientist stories (including my own) have gotten much of their erotic charge from the image of a sweet young thing ravished by an unnatural monster. Does identifying the monster need to be so straightforward, though?
* If the mad scientist is a personality type, they must have appeared throughout history. What were they up to in imperial China or pre-Columbian Mesoamerica?

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Silent Shadows Come (Ninjas) → circlet.com

Call for submissions: Silent Shadows Come (ninjas!)

Deadline: July 31, 2012

The first rule of ninjas is: You don’t talk about ninjas.

Ninjas, or shinobi, are by definition mysterious and hard to define. Few historical accounts exist, and many are considered to be rooted in myth or legend. Some legends say that ninjas could fly, shapeshift, walk on water, or summon animals. Others say they could control the elements, perform magic, or turn invisible. Forget vampires — when a mysterious dark figure appears at the bedroom window, what if it’s a ninja? Delve into the eroticism and mystery of a mythic figure living under his or her own rules, apart from polite society and destined to inhabit the shadows. For this anthology, we want to read your take on the ninja, whether you want to stick to what few facts exist (ninjas were historically spies, assassins, and saboteurs, trained to blend in using disguises and stealth) or explore the more fantastical mythology. What were ninjas really like? Are they gone, or are they still around today? How would a ninja approach romance, sensuality, and pleasure?

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Under Cover of Darkness (Villains!) → circlet.com

Call for submissions: Under Cover of Darkness (villains!)

Deadline: Aug. 15 2012.

Every rebel has his or her galactic dictator. The gallant young gentleman has his moustache-twirling railroad binder (not to mention the sweet thing tied to the tracks). The cheeky highwayman and the corrupt sheriff. For every good guy we root for, there’s a villain. And some of us have always found the villains sexier than the heroes. How many villains are really evil–and how many are just trying to change the status quo, a la Doctor Horrible? Maybe they’re just misunderstood. Or maybe they are evil, but hey, there’s always someone getting gooshy for the bad boy, even if it’s just for one night. Or maybe one knight. We’re looking for stories that show every dichotomy has TWO sides, and it’s time for the attractions and enticements on the villain’s side to be examined. Circlet Press welcomes sex-positive stories of all sexualities and preferences.

MORE DETAILS ON SUBMITTING:
Length: Our preferred length is approximately 3500 to 7500 words, but we will consider the range from 2000 to 10,000 words. All submissions must be made via email to Andrea Trask, editor, at the following address: blisswrites@gmail.com

Chocolatiers of the High Winds → circlet.com

by H.B. Kurtzwilde
ISBN: 978-1-61390-049-9
Word Count: 122,000
List Price: $6.99

Circlet Press digital titles are also available at the Amazon Kindle Store, B&N.com, Smashwords, Fictionwise, and many independent booksellers via Google ebooks, as well as specialty ebookstores like All Romance eBooks, to name just a few! (Please let us know if your favorite source for digital books does not carry this title and you want them to.)

This gay steampunk romance follows the globe-trotting adventures of young Mayport Titus, the sole scion of the Titus Chocolate fortune. Mayport’s father, an adventurer and entrepreneur, established the intercontinental chocolate trade using sugar from India, cacao from South America, and a factory in New Amsterdam, before he and his wife were lost when their airship went down over the ocean and left Mayport orphaned. Now determined to make his own way in the world, Mayport attempts to resurrect his father’s old airship, The Dutch Process, with the help of Thiervy, an intimate school friend who happens to be both a pilot and an engineer. Together Mayport and Thiervy not only rebuild the ship, and revolutionize the moribund chocolate industry, they bring a new way of doing things to the world.

But their partnership will be tested. Love between men is not sanctioned in society, punishable by death for airshipmen, and kept behind closed doors in the genteel Confederate society that they enter when centering their new business in the American South. And both men are haunted by their fathers’ legacies of madness and violence. What sacrifices will Mayport make to protect those he loves? And what will he find when he finally flies his ship to that worn spot on his father’s old wooden globe?

Chocolatiers of the High Winds is a rollicking romance in classic adventuring style, punctuated with passion and sweetened with chocolate. The ebook edition collects all 50 chapters of the web serial that ran on circlet.com from 2010-2011, and also includes one bonus chapter featuring a new erotic scene between Mayport and Thiervy… and more chocolate!
